Deborah Kemp
In private practice for over 20 years, I am a qualified Counsellor and Supervisor based in East Northants.
I offer a safe and supportive environment in which to explore past and present experiences that may be causing distress and limiting enjoyment; working with individuals who seek happier lives.
Got a question? We’re here to help.
To be listened to
To be accepted
To be respected
To be supported
A counsellor listens carefully and supports you in reflecting deeply on the concerns that you bring. You are encouraged to explore problems and consider alternative strategies. A counsellor will not tell you how to think, feel, or what to do - but will support you in finding your own answers.
The first appointment provides an opportunity for us to discover if we can work together effectively, and to establish how I can best support you.
In this first exploratory session I will need to find out about you - both the good and the less positive. I need to know the particular things that trouble you, and what you are hoping for. There will also be time for you to ask questions about the work, and counselling in general.
At the end of this initial appointment, if we are both in agreement, we will arrange further sessions.
Counselling sessions are usually weekly; where possible at the same time each week. I run a flexible diary around personal commitments, and offer appointments during the day and in the evening. A session lasts for one hour.
The number of sessions will vary, depending on the issues and what you want to achieve. It could be anything from a few weeks to several months. This will not necessarily be decided at the first session; it is something that will be discussed and reviewed as work progresses.
Counselling provides a safe, secure space for you to work on your personal difficulties.
As a BACP member I am bound by their code of ethics, which includes a commitment to client confidentiality. To ensure that professional standards are maintained, all BACP accredited counsellors are required to have their work professionally supervised. However, be assured that your anonymity is respected, with no identifying information being shared during supervision.
Counselling & Supervision sessions are £60.00 per hour. Usually people pay the fee at the end of each session.
If you give me enough time to re-allocate the session, there will be no charge. However, if you cancel within 24 hours of the appointment, the full fee will be payable.
It is very common, when in therapy, to feel stuck or a bit upset. This is a normal part of the process, as you reflect at a deeper level. If you feel you are not making the progress you had hoped for, we should discuss this in the sessions, as it may be that we need to review what you want from therapy. A planned ending is a key part of the therapeutic process
